Résumé : | This book is the compilation of invited oral and poster presentations given at the Shade Tree Wilts Conference held in St. Paul, MN, August, 1999. Also included are three chapters derived from pertinent publications used as part of presentations during the conference. The program was designed to cover two major diseases, oak wilt and Dutch elm disease, in depth and present information on other important diseases associated with the vascular tissue of woody plants including Verticillium wilt, bacterial leaf scorch, pine wilt, watermark disease, and yellows disease. Rounding out the program were presentations on lesser known wilt diseases and Fusarium wilt. A presentation and demonstration on research at the University of Minnesota demonstrated that planting trees too deep, alone or when combined with girdling and encircling roots, can cause tree decline and dieback symptoms often indistinguishable from those of wilt diseases. The luncheon address on communicating your concerns to citizens provided information for effectively spreading the word on tree diseases to the public while the opening presentation on vascular anatomy and physiology reviewed the basics necessary for understanding wilt diseases. |
