Résumé : | This new edition ofDr Christie's well-known and highly successful book has been completely re-written and little remains of the earlier editions (published in 1973 and 1982) which have served analysts well for 30 years. Lipid Analysis is a practical guide, in one volume, to the complexities of the analysis oflipids. It is designed to act as a primary source, of value at the laboratory bench rather than residing on a library shelf. The book deals with the isolation, separation, identification and structural analysis ofglycerolipids, including triacyiglycerols, phospholipids, sphingolipids, and the various hydrolysis products of these. The chapters follow a logical sequence from the extraction of lipids to the isolation and characterization of particular lipid classes and of molecular species of each. Gas chromatography has seen remarkable improvement in the resolution attainable thanks to the availability of capillary columns fabricated from fused silica. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry has become less costly, more versatile and more accessible than formerly, as a result of developments in mass spectrometry. High-performance liquid chromatography has become a major tool for lipid analysts, and the development of sensitive mass spectrometry systems of relatively low cost that can interface with the technique is fuelling further advances in the science of lipids. Thin-layer chromatography may be low-tech', but it is still immensely useful to lipid analysts. In this new edition of Lipid Analysis, the attention given to these techniques reflects their continuing value to lipid analysts. |
