Résumé : | For several years, UniLaSalle has been involved in a process of digitizing knowledge and data. In this perspective, the idea of creating a virtual fieldtrip has appeared. This thesis will answer the question: how to teach geological field mapping in an online and pedagogical way, via digital tools, in the Buis-les-Baronnies area, for first- and second-year students? On the one hand, Buis-les-Baronnies is a suitable area to carry out fieldwork because of its location, its characteristic facies, and structures as well as its geological history. Students learn to map an area geologically. On the other, digital technology helps learning, but it is a subject of debate in education. Nevertheless, it has a captivating and attractive aspect with its illustrations, animations, and modernity. A virtual field camp is interesting for teachers and students (more egality, more autonomy, time saving). There are some disadvantages, but they are negligeable. There are also many favorable contexts for the implementation of a virtual field camp (disability, illness...). To develop this project, it was necessary to carry out field acquisitions to study the geology of the area and to collect data (measurements, descriptions, samples, photographs). The data were collected in a geodatabase in GIS format. It was then processed with different tools and integrated into ESRI solutions. The tools for the presentation are Genially, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer and Wondershare Filmora. The final virtual field camp consisted of 4 exercises: completing the log of the study area, recognizing macroscopic and microscopic fauna, making geological and diagenetic cross sections, and finally drawing boundaries between facies. Other presentations could have been used, such as an immersive mode via 360° views and movement through the entire field perimeter. Although the exercises are digital, some renderings are on paper. Full digitization of the renderings may be a possible evolution, as well as additional exercises. |
