Résumé : | This thesis focuses on the study of the North-East German basin. This basin is in the Hercynian chain. The field area is the Harz massif. The Harz massif is an uplift of rocks from the basin. This uprising was caused by the collision of the Baltica paleo-continents with the northern and southern parts of the Avalonia terrane during the Ordovician. This massif shows two main phases of deformation. The first phase comes from a SE-NW compression. This phase is caused by the successive closure of the Rheic and Rheno-Hercynian oceans between the Upper Devonian and the Permian. This deformation set up NE-SW oriented folds and thrusts. The second phase comes from a SW-NE oriented compression and is caused by the alpine collision in the Upper Cretaceous. This deformation has led to dextral shear faults which are oriented E-W to ESE-WNW. The purpose of this study is to understand the structure of the North-East German basin. The study of the Harz massif, which represents a resurgence of the rocks of this basin, makes it possible to understand the overall structure of the basin by analogy. To this, a bibliographical study was carried out. In addition, a sampling and measurement campaign was carried out in September 2018. The CAD and photogrammetric profiles allow to define the main structures of this massif. These structures correspond to those set up by the first and second deformation phases that affected the Harz massif. The analyses of thin sections provided detailed information about the lithologies in the study area. |
