MALADIE DES PLANTES MALADIE PATHOLOGIE VEGETALE |
Résumé : | The fourth edition of the Compendium of Soybean Diseases builds on the previous editions to provide a thorough, authoritative, and practical reference for plant pathologists and others working with soybean diseases in the field, diagnostic laboratories, or plant clinics. This revised edition, which is international in scope, should prove even more helpful than the first three editions to crop disease consultants and their scouts, advisers in government departments of agriculture and regulatory agencies, agribusiness representatives, county agents, area crop specialists, educators, students, growers, and researchers the world over. Sections of the compendium have been revised and updated by soybean authorities from around the world. Those who prepared the information on individual diseases are acknowledged at the end of their sections and are also listed in this preface. New sections in the fourth edition include those on Aristastoma leaf spot, black leaf spot, Drechslera leaf spot, Leptosphaerulina leaf spot, and Stemphylium leaf spot, and the section on sudden death syndrome has been expanded. Updated color plates are included for almost all of the sections. The reference lists have been revised to include contemporary and classic scientific papers, books, monographs, and proceedings of workshops and conferences. For a review of literature published before the first edition, consult Sinclair and Dhingra's bibliography (see Selected References at the end of this preface). Diseases described in this compendium are divided into two parts. Part I includes diseases caused by bacteria and phytoplasmas, fungi, nematodes, and viruses. Disorders caused by abiotic factors are discussed in Part H. The common names for most diseases were retained from the previous edition, while the scientific binomials and their authorities were taken primarily from several sources listed at the end of this preface. Within each section, the most recent scientific name has been used with the appropriate citation. The authorities for the scientific names are listed in the appendix. Suggested control measures given at the ends of the disease descriptions are purposely general, and principles and cultural practices that should not become obsolete and are applicable in most soybean-growing areas of the world are included. When available, a list of resistant or tolerant cultivars or germ plasm is given as well as the designation of known genes for resistance. A discussion of strategies for managing soybean diseases is presented in Part III. For current information on chemical management and cultural practices, readers should consult recent literature, competent area specialists, extension or advisory plant pathologists, or informed agricultural suppliers. For information on resistance to some diseases published prior to 1980, the publication by Tisselli et al. listed at the end of this preface is useful. There are several electronic databases available for obtaining recent information related to soybean. StratSoy is an information system developed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Texas A & M University and is on the World Wide Web. StratSoy allows graphical interface with the web and supports audio and video transmissions. It also offers in-stant access to information on research projects, weather forecasts, commodity price information, and trade and export information that can help soybean producers and industry leaders expand their knowledge and stay abreast of important developments. Comments regarding the general usefulness of this edition or omissions from it are welcome. Numerous suggestions made by readers and users of the previous editions are incorporated here. With readers' suggestions, future editions can be even more useful. The personnel and facilities of the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Arkansas and the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign were used in the preparation of this edition with the support of S. M. Lim and G. A. Heichel, respectively. Special thanks are given to Rebecca Bryant of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and to the University of Arkansas for aid in preparing the manuscript. |
