| Résumé : | Improved pest management is an essential element of sustainable agriculture. Plant resistance to parasitic nematodes, a form of pest management, is currently under-utilized, particularly in developing countries. However, factors such as the pressure of increasing limitations on the use of chemical nematicides, narrow profit margins and a limited list of alternative prevention methods make necessary the development and increased deployment of such resistance mechanisms. With a practical orientation, this book describes methods for evaluating the resistance and tolerance of plant cultivars to important parasitic nematode species, such as root-knot, cyst and reniform. It also discusses the concepts and consequences of resistance. The book will provide an invaluable source of information to all plant pathologists, nematologists and plant breeders. |
