Résumé :

Volume I contains about I 20 papers accepted for the 2nd International Symposium on Pre-failure Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials (IS Torino 99).The papers mainly deal with: I. Stiffness-assessment of geomaterials from advanced in situ and laboratory testing; 2. Modelling of stress-strain properties, and 3. Applications and case histories. A large class of geomaterials has been considered ranging from soft rocks to reconstituted and natural gravels, sands and clays: Artificially cemented sands, as well as reinforced sous have also been investigated.Laboratory results mainly refer to aclvanced triaxial and torsional shear tests performed under monotonic and/or cyclic loading conditions. In situ resuits mainly refer to geophysical or seismic tests. Main topics include:I. Recent developments in Iaboratory equipment; testing procedures in triaxial and torsional apparatuses; interrelationship among different Iaboratory techniques to measure stiffness; 2. Modelling material nonlinearity, time effects, anisotropy and stress-dependency; 3. Predicted and observed sou dispiacements around excavations as welI as foundation movements.
